Game Night

We don’t have a scheduled game night.  Sometimes we play games together as a family.  Sometimes we don’t.  But when we do, it’s a master’s class in manners, patience, sanity, sportsmanship, and rule-following. But it is almost always a time of growing closer as a family. We all seem to enjoy ourselves in the end.  The boys are getting comfortable with requesting “game night.”  Last night, our self-proclaimed BINGO-hater (Benjamin) made a bid for the game he apparently loathes – as his game of choice.  Jonathan, who contends that he is willing to play SORRY as long as he is the one who wins, is learning the art of graciousness after being sent back to “start” by an opponent.  Even the parents, who also value this special time together, are cultivating discernment regarding some nights being better-suited for games than others.
Although it is rarely perfect, game night is a great opportunity for us all to slow down, spend time connecting with each other, laugh, and share life.  Here, the boys smile for mom after a hybrid evening of Magna-Tiles and SORRY.  (Jon keeps “the spirit of the game” alive by looking anywhere except toward the camera.)

Tell Jon and Ben that we are looking forward to playing games with them.
